So this is why all lawyers recommend to keep your h1 status valid, when you file your 485. Getting into EAD is a risk, which some bold take and survive, others like me who try to play safe....stay on H1 until the 485 is approved.
That would have been my preference as well - unfortunately I did not have a choice since my company had a RIF and I am now looking for work! Any help on what the status is called (other than jobless!) would be appreciated

Btw, one twist I have is that my birth certificate is in Punjabi. How should I get that translated. Is there a procedure? Or simply should/can I get some equivalent, such as affidavite from my parents attested by some govt authority etc.,
Also, in case I can't make it now (depends on preponing air tickets etc), may I have to wait couple of more years. My priority date is Mar'05 and EB2. Some rough idea atleast..

You can get it translated in India iteself and get it notarized... or get an affadivit notarized from both parents for birth certificate.. that should do it and you do not have to bother about translation.
Regarding dates, no one knows when will it be current again.. as long as you have valid H1 and approved 140 you are good to continue to get 3 years extensions... until it becomes current again..

Priority Date Current: Curse or Boon ?
I am EB3 India applicant with PD of August 2001 (own not substitution). Have I 140 approved since November 2005 but was only able to file I 485 in June 2007. With same employer for 10 yrs and on 9th yr of H1.
Earlier this year my PD was correct for 2 months but didnt hear anything from USCIS. My PD is current again this Nov and Dec and havent heard anything yet. Called USCIS customer svc and they said cant do anything as processing date is not current (Yes and they are going by Notice date and not Received date for service request). Lawyer says just stay cool and wait. So USCIS has no logic and no order and all we can do is wait for our stars to be aligned and case getting picked up in a sweep. Other than that being current is a curse rather than a boon because

So those dying for PD to be current think again. Its no use having PD current if USCIS is going to be so random and haphazard. It may turn out to be a curse.

Just curious, why didn't you file in June 07? Your PD was current then? You would have been way ahead had you filed in June.

My I-140 and I-458 have different A#. I always put both the number on the EAD/AP application i.e. A#123456/A# 7890123. no problem so far

Wasn't it Condi who said that this fiasco was a 'small inconvenience' to the applicants ?? Good idea Lecter. A bit like remembering to tell your wife how she looks (caution advised) I have no problem with posting comments. I absolutely love to stare at the beautiful images on this site. Dear All,
I was doing part -time school in a university and before they wanted to admit me,the university procedures included TB test. I showed positive in skin test and negative in X-ray about 4 months ago.
But the school procedures expected me to take TB tablets otherwise they wont let me register for courses. For the last 4 months I am on TB medication, I have it going on until october of this year.
Right now, I am in a dilemma. Since all our PD's our current, we need to get medical examination done. I don't know how my skin test is going to be since I am taking meds.
Should I inform my doctor that I am on medications or should I just hide it?
And should I take a letter from my school health department about how I don't have TB but been given medicines for School purposes? What should I do?
Please advise.

Just don't even spend your time on this or any message board. Come to US ASAP and file before 17th August. You can add your wife later.
retrogression!... if dates does not move and your wife were not able to file 485 before they approve your AOS... she will be out of status the day your 485 gets approved if she were to stay in dependent status (H4).. she has 180 days from the date of your approval to file hers.. if that doesn;t happen.. then she will have to leave the country to avoid problems..
I would say file it together.. thats the best..

I doubt that all the pending applicants in EB categories will be forced to re-apply in the new point based systems. That system might be for the new applicants, There might very well be a recapture for all the lost visa so far...to get thru the pending applications quickly so that the new point based system would be in place...I highly doubt that all the pending applicants will be forced to apply in the point based system...I would like to get input from others as well
Going by the fact about what happened to the labor certification cases filed before April 2005 (They were sent to BECs and most of them were stuck there till December 2007). But the labor certifications by the new PERM system where approved within weeks. I am afraid same would happen if the new point system comes into place while the old GCs will be stuck until several years.
Ofcourse most of them will apply again through the new system if this happens. In a way forced to apply again in the new system.

How can a illegal obtain a paycheck without using a stolen SSN, so there is no way CIR can pass in its current state which allows for a guest worker program. This would mean that any illegal who has stolen a SSN would not be eligible for Guest Worker program - which would be over 90% of illegals.

If you have copy of approved I-140, then your priority date would be mentioned there.

For some reason I remember this Venkat80 got his GC approved. If he is the same guy and playing with our emotions then this guy must be banned right away from IV. Otherwise I am sorry..

I believe unless you filed I-485 under the revised fee structure last year, you need to pay for EAD and AP renewal every time you have to renew.
