AMW Reviews: Mary Kay's TimeWise Luminous and Matte Wear Foundations

For the first time, today's liquid foundation product review is relate-able to all skin types!  The oily, the dry, the combination.  Okay, I stand corrected, sensitive skin gals out there should always do a patch test on whatever products they put on their face as different individuals have different skin reactions to certain ingredients.

I recently road tested Mary Kay's TimeWise Matte-Wear and Luminous-Wear Liquid Foundation.  Feel free to read this post and see which one is right for you!

TimeWise Luminous-Wear Liquid Foundation
(For Normal to Dry Skin)

TimeWise Luminous-Wear Foundation says ---
  • A moisturizing complex enriched with skin-loving jojoba delivers lasting comfort and hydration.
  • Skin looks luminous, radiant and immediately brightened as skin texture appears visibly improved.
  • For normal to dry skin.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Formulated with jojoba was esters to provide moisturization.  Infused with vitamin E and a patented blend of collagen-building peptides for skin that instantly looks firmer, younger and healthier.

AMW says ---
Pros
  • Box comes with the shade name and expiration date.  List of ingredients are also clearly written and easy to read.
  • Simple squeeze type packaging easy to control the amount of product that comes out of the tube.
  • Skin is moisturized for the whole day.  No flaking even if I retouch with my favorite setting powder.
  • Gives a nice radiant glow.
  • Doesn't have huge sparkles or shine.
  • Gives a light, medium to heavy coverage.
  • Can lighten up redness.
  • Can lessen darkness of the under eye circles (but not totally gone).
  • Doesn't have a weird scent.
  • Does not settle in fine lines.
  • Lightweight, very easy to spread minus the tugging.
  • Very natural-looking.
  • No white cast even with direct flash.
Cons
  • The age-fighting effect cannot be seen at once.
  • If you are into heavy coverage, you will finish up this foundation quickly as this is only 29ml
Will I repurchase?
Yes.

Mary Kay's TimeWise
Luminous-Wear Liquid Foundation
in Beige

Blended well, it does have a bit of "yellowish tint" on my hand

but it goes perfectly on my face
Skin isn't dry-looking at the same time, the redness on my cheek area has been reduced giving me an even skin tone.

 TimeWise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation
(for Combination to Oily Skin)

TimeWise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation says ---
  • Special microspheres work all day to absorb oil and control shine without a heavy makeup look or feel.
  • Skin has a matte finish, and the appearance of pores is visibly reduced.
  • For combination to oily skin.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Comes in 4 shades
  • Net. Wt. 1fl.oz
AMW says ---
Pros
  • Box comes with the shade name and expiration date.  List of ingredients are also clearly written and easy to read.
  •  Same squeeze type packaging.
  • Gives a seriously "matte", clean look.
  • Feels light on skin.
  • Though this is meant for combination to oily skin, I tried using this and it didn't dried out my skin.
  • Reduces redness and can even out skin tone.
  • Does not settle in my fine lines.
  • Does not create white cast even with direct flash (if you are using the right shade).
  • My skin is not as oily but I was able to survive 8 hours without retouching.  I felt like a "slob" but when I looked at the mirror, skin looks healthy and good.
  • I can survive without setting this with a powder.
  • Gives light to heavy coverage.
  • No skin irritations or allergic reactions.
Cons
  • Has dimethicone (derived from silica) which other users may be allergic to.
  • Same as above, heavy coverage users may finish this up in a month's time or less!
Will I repurchase?
Yes!

  Mary Kay TimeWise
Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation
in Ivory

The shade looks light against my hand

But once blended, it seems ok
But still, this shade is not right of me as creating heavy coverage using this shade will show how "light" this goes compare to my neck.

Medium coverage on the other side of my face
Can lessen under eye circles, though this side of my face does not have much redness, it can still reduce redness

Overall
Both foundation  made by Mary Kay is actually a hit!  I like both finish.  For someone with "sometimes normal, sometimes dry skin", I am surprised I can actually use the Matte Wear version and it gives out a super matte look that I want on days I don't need the luminosity.  At the same time, the Luminous-wear lives up to its' name, it gives a certain glow that isn't obvious it came from makeup.

As seen on photos above, I got Beige for the Luminous-wear which has a tiny hint of yellow undertone perfect for MAC's NC30-35 while the Ivory one from Matte-wear can be tricky to use.  Though Ivory can work on MAC's NC20-25 (which is where I am), this doesn't have the "yellow tint" I need which may look a bit light on me especially with direct camera flash.

To remedy the said situation and the reason why both of these shades I can test, I use the Matte-wear Ivory shade on my T-zone where it isn't that dry and Luminous-wear in Beige for the rest of my face.  Aside from the fact that in helps minimize retouching, it gives a nice, natural "highlighted" face that I want!  I don't look as flat anymore but 3 dimensional!

I'm smart aren't I? (please say YES :P)

Tips
  • Can be applied with your favorite foundation brush, stippling brush, synthetic flat brush, sponge, Beauty Blender or clean fingers.
  • Can double up as a concealer by gently patting the foundation on areas that needed more coverage.
  • Test on testers to know the right foundation for you.
  • If you are acidic, purchase at least 2-3 shades lighter foundation depending on your condition.
  • Once irritations or allergic reactions occur, stop usage IMMEDIATELY.
  • If you purchased a wrong shade, fret no more, you can fix it up by mixing with another foundation shade. (Note: Cream to cream, Liquid to Liquid)
  • Since both products do not contain SPF, do not skip your sun protection prior to makeup application.
  • Use a makeup primer if needed to create smooth canvass and will keep your foundation stay longer.  (Mary Kay TimeWise also created a Primer, I will review it once I'm ready!)
